Building a Clamp Storage Rack

Article 120: Building a Clamp Storage Rack

By: A Woodworker Who Finally Got Tired of Clamps on the Floor

Clamps are essential but unwieldy. This wall-mounted rack organizes them by type—bar clamps, F-style, spring, and pipe clamps—keeping your shop safe and tidy.

Materials

  • 3/4" plywood or hardwood board:

    • Back panel: 36" × 24"

    • Rack arms: (6) @ 10" × 3"

  • Screws, glue, finish

Tools Needed

  • Drill/driver

  • Table saw or miter saw

  • Square

  • Level

  • Clamps (to build your clamp rack!)

Steps

  1. Build the Back Panel

    • Mount directly to wall studs using lag screws or French cleat.

  2. Cut and Install Rack Arms

    • Notch or angle arms slightly upward. Screw and glue to back panel, spaced 4–6" apart.

  3. Add Dividers or Pegs

    • For spring clamps or smaller ones, add pegs or shelves.

  4. Finish

    • Sand edges and apply a clear coat or just leave raw for utility.
