This apothecary cabinet features many small drawers—ideal for storing hardware, spices, or craft supplies. It combines repetitive joinery with a refined presentation.

Materials

  • 1/2" Baltic birch plywood – 1 full sheet

  • 1/4" hardwood drawer fronts (maple, walnut)

  • 1/8" plywood or hardboard for drawer bottoms

  • Drawer pulls (16–20)

  • Wood glue

  • Finish of choice

Cut List (Example: 4 rows × 5 drawers)

  • Outer case: 24" W x 16" H x 8" D

  • Drawers (20): 4.5" W x 3.5" H x 7" D

Tools Needed

  • Table saw

  • Dado blade or router for grooves

  • Clamps

  • Square

  • Sanding tools

Steps

  1. Build Cabinet Case

    • Cut top, sides, and dividers. Use dados for alignment. Glue and clamp square.

  2. Construct Drawers

    • Use box joints, rabbets, or simple butt joints. Groove sides for drawer bottoms.

  3. Add Drawer Fronts

    • Attach hardwood faces slightly larger than drawer box. Center and glue/screw in place.

  4. Finish and Add Pulls

    • Sand entire piece and apply a satin polyurethane. Install drawer pulls or finger holes.
