This wine rack hangs on the wall and holds six bottles securely, combining aesthetic appeal and practical storage using simple joinery.
Materials
1×6 hardwood (walnut or oak), 36" long (backboard)
1×4 hardwood, (3) @ 16" (shelves)
3/4" dowel, 12" (pegs)
Wood glue
Hanging hardware
Tools Needed
Drill with Forstner bit (1 1/2")
Miter saw
Measuring tape and square
Clamps
Sander
Steps
Cut the Back and Shelves
Backboard: 36" × 5 1/2"
Shelves: 16" wide, with front edge notched to hold bottle necks.
Mark and Drill Bottle Holes
On each shelf, drill three evenly spaced 1 1/2" semicircular notches using a Forstner bit, halfway through the front edge.
Attach Shelves
Glue and screw shelves to the backboard with slight upward tilt (~5°) to prevent bottles slipping.
Install Dowels
Drill holes beneath each shelf and insert dowels at an angle to cradle the bottle’s base.
Sand and Finish
Smooth all surfaces. Finish with oil or clear coat. Mount securely to wall studs.
