Bleaching wood brightens its tone and highlights the grain. Great for modern or coastal décor.
Materials & Tools
A/B two-part wood bleach (oxalic acid is for spot removal only)
Protective gloves and eye protection
Natural-bristle brush
Fine grit sandpaper
Distilled water
Steps
Sand the Surface
Use 150-grit to 220-grit paper. Remove all finish or oils.
Mix and Apply Bleach
Follow manufacturer’s instructions. Apply part A, then part B with a brush.
Let React and Dry
Let the wood sit for 4–8 hours in a ventilated area.
Neutralize and Rinse
Use a mix of water and vinegar to neutralize the chemicals.
Finish the Surface
Sand lightly and seal with clear polyurethane or water-based lacquer.
Tips
Works best on oak, ash, and maple.
Do a test board first to preview the result.
Always wear gloves—this is serious chemistry.
