A sturdy potting bench makes gardening easier and keeps your workspace tidy. This model includes a soil basin, storage shelves, and a slatted work surface.
Materials
Pressure-treated 2×4 lumber:
(4) legs: 36"
(6) top frame pieces: 36" (front/back) and 18" (sides)
(8) slats for worktop: 1x4s cut to 36"
(6) shelf slats: 1x4s cut to 18"
Galvanized screws (2½")
Plastic storage bin (soil basin)
Exterior wood glue
Finish: outdoor wood sealer
Tools Needed
Circular saw or miter saw
Drill/driver
Clamps
Tape measure and square
Steps
Assemble the Frame
Build a rectangle using 2×4s at 36" × 18". Repeat for lower shelf frame.
Screw legs into top frame corners.
Install Slatted Top
Leave a ½" gap between 1×4 slats. One space should be left open for the soil bin to drop in.
Install Lower Shelf
Screw shelf frame 12" from the ground and install slats across.
Finish and Seal
Sand sharp edges. Apply wood sealer for weather protection.
