Floating shelves add a sleek, modern touch to any space, providing storage without visible brackets. Here's how to build a simple floating shelf that will hold up to weight while maintaining that clean, minimalist look.

Circular saw or table saw
Drill and drill bits

Sandpaper or sander

Steps
Cut the Wood Pieces
Cut the 1x10 pine board to the desired shelf length (48” long).
Cut the 1x4 pine boards to make the support frame (two pieces 46” long).
Assemble the Shelf Frame
Attach the 1x4 support pieces to the back of the 1x10 shelf, forming a rectangular frame.
Install the Wall Mounting Bracket
Attach a small cleat or bracket to the wall using screws into studs.
Install the shelf onto the wall bracket, ensuring it’s level.
Sand and Finish
Sand the shelf and frame to smooth the surfaces and edges.
Apply your choice of finish or paint for a sleek look.
