French cleats make the most versatile wall storage for hand tools, clamps, and even power tools.

Materials

Tools Required

  • Table saw or circular saw

  • Drill and driver bits

  • Stud finder

  • Level

  • Measuring tape

  • Clamps

Steps

  1. Cut the Cleats
    Rip plywood into 4” strips, then cut a 45° bevel along one edge.

  2. Mount to Wall
    Find studs and attach cleats with screws, beveled side up/outward.

  3. Make Accessories
    Build tool holders, bins, or hooks with matching 45° bevels on the back.

  4. Finish
    Apply a clear coat or just sand for a shop-used finish.
