Perfect for tight quarters or minimalist setups, this fold-down desk hinges from the wall and tucks away when not in use. Ideal for remote work, small apartments, or craft areas.

Materials

  • 3/4" plywood (Birch or cabinet-grade) – 2' x 4'

  • (2) Folding brackets or piano hinge (30")

  • French cleat strip (optional)

  • 1x3 hardwood for trim

  • Wall anchors or wood screws

Cut List

  • Desk Surface: 36" x 18"

  • Trim: (2) 36", (2) 18"

  • Backing Panel (optional): 36" x 12" (wall mount)

Tools Needed

  • Circular or table saw

  • Drill and driver

  • Level

  • Stud finder

  • Wood glue

  • Sander

Steps

  1. Build Desk Surface

    • Apply 1x3 trim around plywood for edge strength. Glue and clamp flush.

  2. Attach Brackets or Hinges

    • Mount folding brackets to desk and wall OR use a piano hinge and a simple support leg.

  3. Mount to Wall

    • Use a French cleat or direct screw into wall studs.

  4. Finish

    • Sand smooth and apply polyurethane or Danish oil.
