Stripped screw holes are a common nuisance in cabinet doors, chair frames, and hinges. Here's how to fix them properly.
Materials & Options
Option 1: Toothpick & Glue
Wood glue
Toothpicks or matchsticks
Option 2: Hardwood Plug
1/4" dowel or plug cutter
Drill & glue
Option 3: Oversize Screw
Next-size-up screw (if wood strength permits)
Tools Needed
Drill
Hammer
Saw or chisel
Clamps (optional)
Steps for Option 2: Hardwood Plug
Drill Out Hole
Clean hole with 1/4" bit.
Insert Plug
Coat dowel with glue, insert tightly. Let dry.
Trim Flush
Cut excess dowel with flush-cut saw.
Redrill
Drill a new pilot hole for the screw.
