Warped doors can ruin the look and function of a cabinet. This guide helps fix minor to moderate warps, especially on solid panel doors.
Assessment
Slight cup or bow: fixable with moisture and clamping
Severe twist: often requires rebuild
Materials
Distilled water or steam source
Clamps
Cauls (straight boards)
Towels
Wood screws (if reinforcement is needed)
Tools Needed
Clamps
Moist cloths
Plane or sander
Straightedge
Steps for Mild Bowing
Moisten Concave Side
Lightly mist the inside of the cup. Lay moist towel on it for 1β2 hours.
Clamp Between Cauls
Place between two straight boards and clamp overnight.
Check Flatness
Repeat if still slightly bowed.
Reinforce
Add battens to back if warping is recurring.
