These early 1900s sewing tables were often made of oak or walnut with ornate cast iron bases. Restoring one offers both practical use and a beautiful story.
Materials
Wood filler or veneer (for missing parts)
Shellac, stain, or lacquer
Steel wool (0000)
Replacement hardware (if needed)

Screwdrivers
Chisels
Sander and hand sanding blocks
Clamps
Wood glue
Steps
Disassemble and Inspect
Remove machine and hardware. Note damaged or missing parts.
Repair Woodwork
Re-glue joints. Patch missing veneer with matching species. Clamp and dry fully.
Clean Hardware
Clean cast iron base with steel wool and wax. Replace missing knobs or hinges.
Refinish
Strip old finish carefully. Apply shellac or lacquer for period-authentic sheen.
Reassemble
Align drawers, reattach top, polish hardware, and reinstall machine if desired.
