This nightstand is both simple and stylish, using basic joinery and a single drawer for essentials. The design fits modern, Scandinavian, and minimalist interiors.

Materials

  • 3/4" hardwood (maple or birch):

    • Top: 18" Γ— 16"

    • Sides: (2) @ 16" Γ— 20"

    • Back: 16" Γ— 20"

    • Bottom: 16" Γ— 18"

    • Drawer front: 15" Γ— 5"

    • Drawer box (1/2" plywood): sides, back, bottom to fit

  • 1/4" plywood for drawer bottom

  • Drawer slides (14")

  • Wood glue

  • 1-1/4" wood screws

Tools Needed

  • Table saw or circular saw with guide

  • Drill/driver

  • Pocket hole jig

  • Clamps

  • Router (for edge rounding optional)

Steps

  1. Cut All Panels

    • Keep cuts square and true.

  2. Assemble Carcass

    • Pocket screw the sides to the top and bottom.

  3. Attach Back Panel

    • Flush fit; glue and screw.

  4. Build Drawer

    • Use box joints or glue and brads. Mount slides.

  5. Install Drawer and Face

    • Adjust to center. Add knob or cut finger pull.

  6. Sand and Finish

    • Use Danish oil or matte polyurethane.
