Tilt-out cabinets conceal trash bins while matching kitchen decor. This project uses a face-frame cabinet design with a hinged front and simple tilt hardware.
Materials
3/4" plywood or hardwood panels
Piano hinge or standard hinge
Trash bin (13–15 gallons)
Knob/pull
Magnetic catch
Pocket screws and glue
Cut List:
(2) Sides: 30" x 16"
(1) Bottom: 16" x 14"
(1) Top: 18" x 17"
(1) Tilt-out face: 18" x 20"
Tools Needed
Circular saw
Drill/driver
Kreg jig (for pocket screws)
Clamps
Hinge jig (optional)
Steps
Build the Box
Assemble the sides, bottom, and back using pocket screws and glue.
Add the Tilt Face
Mount the face to the bottom front edge using hinges.
Install Tilt Stops
Use small chains or wood blocks to control tilt angle (~35–40°).
Attach Knob and Latch
Install handle at top center of the tilt face. Add a magnetic catch to keep it closed.
Paint or Stain
Match your kitchen. Use polyurethane for durability.
