Loose spindles can squeak, wobble, or pop out. Here's how to reset them properly.
Materials
Liquid hide glue (for reversibility)
Toothpicks or shims (optional)
Sandpaper (220 grit)
Tools Needed
Mallet
Clamp
Drill or awl (for cleaning out socket)
Rag and warm water
Steps
Remove Spindle (If Necessary)
Gently wiggle out the loose spindle. Use a damp cloth and mallet if stuck.
Clean Old Glue
Scrape out sockets with awl or drill bit. Sand spindle ends lightly.
Test Fit
If loose, add shims made from slivers of hardwood or toothpicks.
Glue and Clamp
Use hide glue. Insert spindle and clamp. Wipe excess glue.
Check Dry Fit
After 24 hours, check for firmness.
