By: A Woodworker Who Knows Doors Should Close Flat
Cabinet doors can warp due to humidity or improper storage. Here’s how to correct or minimize a warp to get it swinging straight again.
Symptoms

Doesn’t close flush
Visible twist or bow
Method 1: Reverse Moisture Correction
Dampen Concave Side
Light mist of water or damp cloth overnight.
Clamp Flat with Cauls
Use pipe clamps and straight boards.
Leave for 24–48 hours.
Apply Finish
Seal both sides evenly afterward.
Method 2: Kerf Relief Cuts (Severe Warps)
Cut Kerfs in Back Side
Use circular saw: shallow cuts perpendicular to warp.
Fill with glue and clamp flat.
Reinforce if Needed
Add battens or spline if area won’t be visible.
Tools Needed
Pipe clamps + cauls
Spray bottle
Circular saw (kerfing)
